JOURNALIST

If I liked the beginning of the novel, as it progressed I became even more excited!

"As a reader, I have been growing and persevering with Aurora. Next to him Iris, awake, ready, artist.
Both workers. What a projection of these women from early 20th century Barcelona! Admirable!
I enjoyed the clever twists in the novel's plot, setting and historical context. And the
revenge itself, which makes the hairs stand on end. I was pleased to discover the reason for the crimson color that appears
in the title Congratulations!"

"For me it is abnormal to read a book of 480 pages in a week... When I got to the chapter where the
what's up, shocking by the way, I couldn't put it down until the end. A story that passes through the author's filter: the
importance he gives to work, to effort, to learning, to the brave. Their descriptions are
perfect images, you can almost touch them... And how I liked the spirit of the protagonist, the knowledge of the

The author has found the formula for his novels to capture in a way
extraordinary

Volveremos a Macondo. Juan Pedro Martín Escolar-Noriega

volveremos a macondo

You have to wait a long time to find a book like El maestro, the first novel published under his real name Màrius Mollà, since in his previous works he signed them with his pseudonyms of Andrés Vidal and Eduardo Roca.

The teacher narrates the story of some brave men who wanted to put an end to the secular education of the Church in Spain and give the teaching of our boys and girls a scientific and rational character, separating from it all mystical and supernatural notions, to achieve with the instruction and formation of the intelligence, the development of character, the culture of the will, the preparation of a well-balanced moral and physical being much more practical than theoretical and based on the great natural law of solidarity.

These idealists followed the illusions of the famous Spanish libertarian educator Francesc Ferrer i Guardia who was sentenced to death by a court martial that unjustly accused him of being one of the instigators of the events of the Tragic Week in Barcelona, and who picked up the modern tradition , initiated by Rousseau in the 18th century, which was contrary to authority and religious worldview, to adapt it to anarchism and free thought that flourished in industrial cities. For this, he created La Escuela Moderna, which was a teaching center that existed at the beginning of the 20th century in Catalonia with the essential objective of educating the working class in a rationalist, secular and non-coercive way, but rather supportive, with a mixed, anti-clerical teaching. and favorable to workers' demands, where boys and girls had unusual freedom, exercises, games and recreation were carried out in the open air, insisted on the balance with the natural environment and with the environment, personal and social hygiene, there were no exams, no prizes, no punishments, extending it to the families of the students who collaborated with the teachers, where teaching was not a faith but a confidence in the future founded on solid knowledge.

This is a well-developed and reliably documented novel. Extremely careful story, where everything is exposed in the right measure. The plot evolves in a related way, being the final part the one that takes on greater importance, giving greater agility to the story.

Aimed at lovers of well-told stories about the city of Barcelona and, of course, those who are seduced by the magic and symbolism of the master Gaudí.

Tras la lluvia literaria

tras la lluvia literaria

I ask a historical novel to transport me to an attractive time, to a past that has wise ingredients that know how to attract my attention. The forbidden books workshop recreates the key moment for the evolution of literature; How was I going to get away from such a story? Eduardo Roca gives us a wonderful portrait of the 15th century Colony. So much so that I, who don't know the city, have walked its streets, visited its excellent cathedral and have glimpsed many of the corners that make a town something special. The physical recreation is as precise as it is lavish and acts as an intelligent complement to help us locate ourselves at the right time and place. On the other hand, the author's careful style allows us to advance through the pages of the book with exquisite and absolute taste.

Despite the successful setting, thanks to which one feels like one more inhabitant of the city, it is the protagonists who bear the weight of the plot and my applause as a reader. I highlight, above all, the great realism that accompanies their profiles: beyond social or ethical categories, they all experience the natural and innate evolution that any human being enjoys during life. Although the personalities remain unchanged, we appreciate subtle changes that enliven the characters, that give them color and texture, that mold them until they acquire a form that seems real, endearing, singular to us. Two protagonists in particular, whose names I will not reveal, I will always remember with a smile and a certain blush on my cheeks; I have suffered so much with them, so much have they earned my eternal affection...

The historical novel is my favorite genre because it quenches my thirst for knowledge and allows me to live unique adventures. Likewise, he knows how to surprise me with intense and tender love relationships, with political intrigues of high ecclesiastical representatives, and also with the social remorse that delving into the past and witnessing gruesome and unfair scenes causes me. In The Workshop of Forbidden Books I have found all of the above and much more. As you can see, then, it is easy to deduce that it is a novel that I recommend you take into account if the synopsis appeals to you, because it fulfills what was promised and still far exceeds it.

Tras la lluvia literaria

tras la lluvia literaria(...)

I found my dearMàrius Mollà in La herencia de la Tierra, although at that time I did not know who had written that marvel. El sueño de la ciudad, El mar de los hombres libres y El taller de los libros prohibidos followed in the wake of emotion and quality of his first film, and now, when facing El maestro,I realize that I am facing an unusual narrative talent. When one lavishes such skill on such different novels, it doesn't matter what name you publish under, because readers will undoubtedly appreciate the splendid ingredients with which you have formed the plot. In his most recent bet, the Catalan author appeals to our duty as citizens aware of the future and puts his finger on the sore spot in one of the thorniest and most current issues: education.

Beyond the fantastic moral, sharp and accurate, the plot has some exceptional companions that make it an excellent and unique work that goes from more to much more: credible and magnetic characters with whom we immediately connect, an impeccable narrative

It is difficult, and unusual to see, for an author to chain three successes in a row, and even more so if it is his first three novels. I read La heredad de la tierra without knowing the person behind the pseudonym Andrés Vidal and I came across a wonderful story. Months later, I approached El sueño de la ciudad with some trepidation, since my expectations could obscure the result. Not only was it not like that, but the novel seemed magnificent to me. Just a few days ago, The Sea of Free Men, the author's new bet, was published, and once again I started it with a mixture of illusion and fear. What have led to both feelings? In the best novel I've read this year.

(…)

The Sea of Free Men is a perfect, round novel. In it Andrés Vidal has allowed himself to be convinced, very rightly and wisely, by an ambitious argument that will lead the reader to endless feelings. It is a very complete book that combines elements of different genres that only extol, even more so if you know how, the extraordinary story it tells: the brilliant historical recreation of the French Revolution, the Napoleonic empire and the restoration of the monarchy; the exciting adventures, lived by a soldier and corsair; the exceptional descriptions of the landscapes through which the plot takes place; the unfathomable and imperishable force of a great love like few others... It is a historical, romantic, adventure, and landscape novel. Does anyone give more?

Màrius Mollà, the engineer behind the name of Andrés Vidal, has outdone himself once again. And it's not a trivial matter, because his previous novel already became one of my favorites from last year. I don't know what reading this 2013 will bring me, but I am sure that few books will be able to tarnish the majesty of The Sea of Free Men. A story that has it all, that promises accurate shots to the reader's heart and that has left me with equal amounts of happiness and sadness. Joy at discovering a novel that displays natural perfection, and sadness at ending my relationship with Christophe Marchand, a character who will remain in my memory for many, many years. I will summarize my opinion, in case I have not explained myself well, in a single word: read it!

El libro olvidado

el libro olvidado

Andrés Vidal proves to be an exceptional writer: he is capable of recounting the entire lives of the protagonists in the purest style of "The Pillars of the Earth". But with the exception that "El sueño de la ciudad" offers an agile and fluid reading, where you never find it hard to read it, since there are no endless descriptions, and everything it tells you is for a reason. There are no empty words.

The leading couple deserves a small mention. I already said in a previous review that I am always very critical of the female characters because of their attitude. Well Laura has not disappointed me. She breaks the mold with her attitude, way ahead of her time. I think the author has molded her personality in a very successful way. On the other hand, Dimas is just as well defined as Laura, but in this case, it is he who undergoes a series of different evolutions throughout the book. And not all of them are good, which gives it a point of mysterious magnetism.

However, to be entirely fair, the greatness of the book is also the work of the minor characters. We see all the virtues and sins represented in a long list of characters that appear on the pages. And, mention aside, there is Gaudí. Unique and unrepeatable.

I really would not like to tell any details of the book, because it deserves to be read with all possible innocence. Every detail, every turn, every situation, has to be properly savored at the right moment.

HS

La Herencia de la Tierra is one of those books that you come across almost by chance, when you are looking for readings but without having anything specific in mind; And it is one of those coincidences that you spend months thanking because it is a beautiful novel that, once you start, it is very, very difficult to let go. (…)

With some characters that came to be really endearing to me and that made me enjoy very good moments of reading. I can imagine Rosendo on that mountain, with the soot of coal on his body, thinking that his life will change, for the better... And perhaps that is the true heritage of the earth, learning that only by looking inside oneself, things can change outside...
